Diablos Rojos del México vs. Vigilantes de Tejas

Here we go! Last season’s World Series losers against last season’s Mexican Series losers!

Mexico vs. Texas. A dance as old as time.

Should you not follow the Mexican League, the season began a couple of weeks ago. The Diablos are currently 6-8, in sixth place in the Zona Norte.

I’ve been to four games so far, and the best I can say about the pitching is it’s fairly patchy. There are one-two-three innings now and then. But there are also 5-run head-in-your-hands innings now and then, too.

So far, they’ve given up 102 runs in 16 games: 7.29 runs per game. But, they’ve been hitting pretty well, 92 runs: 6.57 per game.

Realistically, anything resembling a line-up that the Rangers may trot out later this week should slaughter the Diablos. But, as a fan, I hold out hope that my local nine can make a game of it.

I’ve not seen the line-up yet, but if you’re gonna be watching: Leo Heras, the Diablos center fielder is my favourite player. Like a not-as-good, really young Ichiro. Left fielder Ivan Terrazas has been pretty hot of late, and is hitting .444 right now. Former Dodger Oscar Robles, 3B, is also doing pretty well, hitting .383. First baseman/DH Japhet Amador is a man who makes Prince Fielder look svelte, but he can hit a ball, and the last few games I’ve seen, he’s had a knack of coming through at the right time.

¡Vamos Diablos!
