Liga Mexicana playoffs update
Three games into the Mexican equivalent of the division series, and three teams have a 3-0 lead.
In the Zona Norte, division winners Sultanes de Monterrey won their first two home games vs. Diablos Rojos del México (6-2 and 6-5), then went to town last night at Foro Sol in a depressing game to watch, especially considering there were two Monterrey fans right behind me. They won 13-3. As has been the problem all season, the Diablos pitching sucks.
In the other Zona Norte series, second placed team Rieleros de Aguascaliente have a 2-1 series lead over Saraperos de Saltillo. All games have been won by the home team so: Rieleros winning the first two (6-1 and 4-2), and Saraperos winning 8-2 last night.
In the Zona Sur, second placed Rojos del Aguila de Veracruz have a 3-0 lead over Olmecas de Tabasco, winning 4-0 and 2-1 at home. Last night, they won their four hour and forty-one minute, 13 inning game 7-6.
Tigres de Quintana Roo, the Zona Sur winners, hold a 2-0 series lead over Guerreros de Oaxaco. Reigning champs Tigres won their home games (5-4 and 4-0), and game three in Oaxaca was suspended in the fourth inning last night due to rain with Oaxaca leading 7-4.
Game four is today, except for Tigres-Guerreros, who’ll complete their game three.
